JULY 2003
.In the 2003-2004 Fraternal Year, Bishop McNamara Council No. 1622 was in MD State District 3. District 3 also included St. Michael's of Poplar Springs Council #10525 in Mount Airy, Archbishop John Carroll Council #11715 in Brunswick, and St. Ignatius of Loyola Council #11815 in Ijamsville, and the new St. Peter the Apostle Council in Libertytown, MD. Our District 3 Deputy was Br. Gary R. Armbruster and our District Warden was Br. Greg Lattus.
Council 1622 volunteers provided two Knights every Saturday night throughout the year to support a Bingo fundraiser run in the school gym by St. John's Literary Institute at Prospect Hall (SJPH). Coordinator: Br. David Satterfield.
Council 1622 volunteers supported a monthly SHARE food co-operative on a Saturday morning in Frederick, MD. Coordinator: Br. Jim Dowell.

July 7, 2003 Council Social Meeting
- PGK Bill Kinsella is seeking new 1st degree team members to fill some vacant parts.
- The Installation of Officers will be held on July 21 at St. John the Evangelist Church.
- PGK Richard O'Connor read a thank you letter from Frederick County Right to Life.
- Discussion on which Catholic schools in frederick County to distribute golf outing proceeds to. Issue was tabled.
- A $1260 check was received for this year's Preakness ushering fundraiser. Br. Jim Concannon and Br. Bud Foss were appointed as next year's Preakness chairmen.
- Br. Richard O'Connor read a thank you note from Frederick County Right to Life.
- Prayers offered bt Chaplain Rev. Leo Tittler.
Two Knights volunteered at the SJPH Bingo every Saturday night throughout the year.

July 21, 2003 - Installation of Officers was conducted at St. John the Evangelist Church. Exemplifying officials were District Deputy Gary Armbruster and District Warden Greg Lattus. The ceremony was followed by a reception at Brewer's Alley Restaurant.

SEPTEMBER 2003 CAR RAFFLE MONTH
Monday, September 8, 2003 - Council Social Meeting - SJPH 7:30pm
- Motion to authorized additional funds for council haberdashery, approved.
- Motion to authorize distributing golf outing proceeds to Catholic schools, approved.
Council Family Picnic on September 6th at Fort Detrick's pond and picnic area - Br. Bernie Litchfield, Jr. cooked on a BBQ trailer. We had at least sixty (60) brother Knights and their families in attendance.
Early September 2003 - Council Car Raffle fundraiser. Included a booth at the Great Frederick Fair.
September 15, 2003 - Council Business Meeting at SJPH
- Application for transfer (return) into council from Br. Nick Gabriel, approved.
- PGK Bob Weedon died August 28, 2003. Thank you to members who supported his funeral Mass on Wednesday, September 3, at St. John the Evangelist Church.
- PGK Joel Tootill (GK for 2002-2003) was in the Columbia magazine, congratulations for earning Star Council, fourth straight year for Council 1622.
- Council 1622 paid a $1 token rent to the City of Frederick City to use their property at 305 E. Patrick Street for our monthly SHARE distribution.
- Council 1622 distributed $700 each to St. John;s Regional Catholic School, St. Thomas More Academy, and St. John's Literary Institute at Prosepct Hall for the proceeds from our golf charity fundraiser.
- Volunteers sought to provide staff support to the "Light the Night" Leukemia Walk to be held on Oct 3. Coordinators Br. William Kinsella, Sr. and Br. David Zakrzwski.
- Volunteers needed to man KofC table at St. John's Church Ministry fair after Masses on Saturday and Sunday. Also, help needed to setup and takedown fair tables.
- MD State programs seminar will be held this coming Saturday in Hagerstown.
- Br. Michael Czarnecki and Br. Eric Phillips will be the coordinators for the upcoming annual Tootsie Roll drive.

September 27, 2003 - SHARE - D-Day
On September 27/28, 2003, the members of the Council assisted the St. John's Parish Community during their annual Ministry Fair. Members helped set up and take down for the fair in addition to manning the coffee and donut table and various Ministry tables. We ourselves had a table for providing details on the Knights and our various activities and obtained fifteen prospective new members. We were happy to be joined at our recruitment table this year by our newly re-established Ladies Auxiliary who provided information on their organization. The ladies also had three (3) possible candidates sign up.

November 17, 2003 - Council Business Meeting -
- Council Christmas party is planned for the 3rd Monday in December, Dec 21. Gifts requested at party to give to Birthright of Frederick. Cash raffle will be conducted to benefit the Frederick Food Bank.
- Volunteers needed on Friday, Nov 21, 5pm, to setup tables and chairs in St. John's parish hall, and on Saturday morning to serve a continental breakfast prior to a parish couples event. St. John's Roundtable chairman Br. Larry Lindner.
- Volunteers needed for Advent decoration at St. John the Evangelist Church on Nov 29 and for Christmas decoration on Dec 22 at 6:30pm. Takedown will be on Jan 10 at 1:30pm.

- Keep Christ in Christmas youth poster contest received 550 submittals, Chairman Br. Julius Pellegrino.
- Council Christmas party will be held on Dec 15 at the Dave and Cindy Satterfield residence.
- Br. Bill Kinsella was presented the Golden Knight Award for recruiting achievements.
- Star Council Award for the 2002-2003 Fraternal Year was presented by the MD State Deputy Richard Sherbert to SK Joel B. Tootill, immediate Past Grand Knight for the 2002-2003 Fraternal Year.
- The 1st Degree was conferred after the meeting on Br. Michael Collins, Br. John Muckenbaun, Br. David Bit, Br. Leroy Roman, and Br. Anthony Munoz. (Historical Note: Only Michael Collins appears in a 2004 council roster, so the others were likely from other councils). Br. Dave Zakrzwski was designated as the degree honoree.

Cretella, III, and Br. Arthur Brett. (Historical note: Only Br. Thomas A. Morgan, Br. Stephen F. Heine, Br. Victor E. Cretella, III, were listed in our July 2004 roster. The others may have been from other councils.)

- There will be a pro-life march in Annaplois MD on March 1.
- A district-level Youth Basketball Freethrow competition will be held on Feb 28 at St. Michaels Catholic Church at Poplar Springs, MD for winners of individual council competitions. Winners will be invited to he MD State Council freethrow competition.

March 1, 2004 - Council Social Meeting - SJPH Library.
- We will have a guest speaker at our next meeting, Mr. Beate Frankel form ARC of Frederick County.
- A welcome and recruiting coffee will be offered after the 1pm Mass at St. John the Evangelist Church on March 7.
- Volunteers needed to help decorate St. John the Evangelist Church for Easter on Holy Saturday, April 10, 2004.
- Pro-life tag covers being sold, see our Grand Knight.
- St. John's Council will conduct a Golf Outing on Monday, June 21, 2004 at the Hollow Creek Country Club in Middletown, MD. Proceeds will benefit Frederick County Catholic Education. Coordinator: Br. John Fox.
- For our Altar Server program, we will present gifts to the kids, Coordinator: Br. Michael Czarnecki.
- The Marlyand State Council Youth Basketball Freethrow competition will be held at Mt. St. Mary's University, Emmitsburg, MD on Sunday, March 7, 2004 at 1pm. District-level winners will be invited to compete.
- Outgoing Financial Secretary Br. D. James Dowell is being replaced by Br. Dave Shumway.
- The St. John's Home Corporation will meet immediately following this meeting.

- A recruiting drive will be conducted after all Masses at St. John the Evangelist Church and St. Katharine Drexel Church on March 22/23.
- On Thursday, March 11, Council members Br. Thomas A. Morgan and Br. Stephen F. Heine acheived their 2nd Degree.
- Youth gifts were presented to Altar servers at St. Joseph on Carrolton Manor Chruch, St. John the Evangelist Church, and St. Katharine Drexel Church.
- A 1st Degree Exemplification will be given on April 5, 7:30 pm, in the SJPH gym. Our 1st degree team will be judged by the MD State Council competition. A district 2nd degree will be given on April 13 in the SJPH gym, and will also be judged. A 3rd degree is scheduled for April 16, location unannounced.
- Raffles for a quilt and a DVD/VCR will be conducted during the Lenten Fish Fries.
- Preakness Usher fundraiser is only two months away.
- Charity donation to St. Vincent DePaul Society has been increased to $500.00.
- Elections for new officers will be held during the 2nd meeting in May.

- Approved transfer applications for Br. Richard F. Ammon, Br. Andre Mahfouz, Br. Charles, F. Amereihn, and Br. Timothy J. Harrison. Approved reactivation application for Br. Anthony L. De Marco. Approved membership applications for Michael B. Middeke, Michael H. Meurer, James Mansfield, and John J. Anthony.
- Approved purchase of new Financial Secretary software.
- Approved $250.00 to purchase books to distribute to the parish of St. John the Evangelist Chruch, contingient on approval by the pastor, Rev. Wayne Funk.

April 19, 2004 - Council Busness Meeting - SJPH.
- There will be a 1st Degree Exemplification on June 7, and a 2nd Degree on June 10.
- Books "Passion of Christ" handed out at St. Johns.
- Motion by Br. John Fox and Br. Richard O'Connor to increase donation to the St. Vincent DePaul Society, approved.
- Five certificates of appreciation were handed out to longstanding SHARE team members.
- Received a thank you note from ARC of Frederick County.
- Photo available for decoration of St. John's for Easter.
- Volunteers needed to participate in pro-life prayer service in front of abortion clinic in Frederick.
- June 14, there will be a Flag Day ceremony in the Frederick City Memorial Park at 7pm.
- June 21 golf tournament, signup deadline is May 31.

- Applications for membership were approved for Donald S. Kersey, Jr., David J. Baldwin, Donald L. Rohr, and Elias Munoz, Jr.
- There will be a First Degree Exemplification here at SJPH on June 7, and a Second Degree Exemplification on June 10 in Urbana.
- April 2004 Family of the Month was awarded to Br. Joel Tootill.
- Br. Michael H. Meurer completed his Third Degree in May 2004.

JUNE 2004
June 7, 2004 - Council Social Meeting
- SK Edward John Golobic died on 3 Jun 2004.
- Flag day celbration will be held on June 14.
- Installation of Officers ceremony and dinner will be held on July 18.
- $1,134 paid into the KofC Fr. McGivney Scholarship fund with the Community Foundation of Frederick County.
- $50 given to each of two students at SJPH for an Academic Acheivement Award.
- Donation given to RSVP seminarian recipient.
- GK Dave Zakrzwski created a Facilities Committee and designated the following members: Br. Joel tootill (chairman), Br. Michael Harrison, Br. John Fox, and Br. David Mortensen. The committee will make recommendations to the membership on how the funds are to be dispersed. The facilities fund will be used to purchase equipment and other such resources for the council, for our parishes, and for the schools serviced by the council.
- After the meeting, a First Degree Exemplification was conducted at SJPH. The First Degree was conferred on Br. Donald S. Kersey, Jr., Br. David J. Baldwin, Br. Donald L. Rohr, Br. Elias Munoz, Jr., Br. Chris McLausen, and Br. John Mark Hubble. Br. McLausen and Br. Hubble were from other councils.
- Opening and closing prayers were offered by Rev. Leo tittler.
June 14, 2004, Annual KofC FLAG DAY CEREMONY was held at the "Memorial Park" (near the old Armory) in downtown Frederick for ALL Knights, family members and friends.
