JULY 2000
In the 2000-2001 Fraternal Year, Bishop McNamara Council No. 1622 was in MD State District 3. District 3 also included St. Michael's of Poplar Springs Council #10525, Archbishop John Carroll Council #11715 in Brunswick, and St. Ignatius of Loyola Council #11815 in Ijamsville. Our District 3 Deputy was Br. Martin A. Luchansky of St. Michael's Council.

July 3, 2000 Council Social Meeting - cancelled.
July 17, 2000 - Installation of Officers conducted by District 4 Deputy Martin Luchansky and District 4 Warden Gary Armbruster at the Fort Detrick Community Activities Center, MD. Officers were installed by District 4 Deputy Martin Luchanski and District Warden William Cooney. MD State Council Past State Deputy Phil Asplen and his wife Teresa were present. A follow-on dinner was held at the activities center.

- Application for transfer into council for Br. Lawrence Gallagher from Council 2169, approved.
- Grand Knights Report:
- - The council received a plaque from the Joe Fund.
- - Installation of Officers for the Seton Chapter of Grand Knights will occur on Sep 20 at the Seton Basilica.
- - A 1st Degree Exemplification is scheduled for Aug 22 at SJPH.
- - The council has earned the Star Council Awrd for th 1999-2000 Fraternal Year, which is anticipated to be formally present in September of October.
- The charity committee submitted a recommedation of funding to 14 charities for a total of $2500. Motion to provide funding approved.
- Motion to transfer council's membership from the existing Bishop McNamara GK Chapter to the newly established Elizableth Ann Seton Chapter (for Western MD), approved.
August 21, 2000 - Council Business Meeting
- Application for membership of Aaron M. Tootill, proposed by Joel Tootil, approved.
- Appication for membership of David J. Mortem, proposed by Joel Tootill, approved.
- Trustees reported that the semi-annual financial audit was completed.
Grasnd Knight's report:
- A certificate of Merit was presented to Br. Rich Fairley.
- Family of the month for July was awarded to PGK David Satterfield.
- Knight of the month for July was awarded to PGK David Satterfield.
- Pilgrimages are planned to Baltimore on Sep 9 and to Emmitsburg on Sep 16.
- The next council meeting will be held on the Tuesday after LAbor Day.
Program reports:
- A family social will be held on Oct 2 at Ft. Detrick, cost $12/person. Coctail hour will begin at 6pm.
- Br. JOel Tootill reports that car raffle sales are going fairly well.
- Next pancake breakfast fundraiser will be on Sunday, Oct 8.
- Br. Rich Fairly discussed upcoming basketball shoot out.

September 5, 2000 - Council Social Meeting - SJPH 7:30pm
- Grand Knight's Report:
- - The Grand Knight presented certificates of recognition to Br, Mike Czarnecki, Br. David Mortenson, Br. Allen Harris, Br. Bernie Litchfield, Jr., and Br. Charles Aaron.
- - The Grand Knight shared an invitation to Br. Museer Sr. and Cora Musser's 50th wedding anniversary party to council members.
- - Seton Chapter of Grand Knights installation of officers will be on Sep 26.
- - A council officer's meeting will be held next Monday.
- - A lettter of resignation was read from the 2 yr Trustee so he could submit his name for election to the Recorder vacancy.
- Election of officers held for Recorder and 2nd Yr. Trustee vacancies. Br. Pat Sullican was elected as Recorder. Br. E. Allen Harris was elected as 2 yr Trustee.
Septmber 18, 2000 - Council Business Meeting at SJPH
- Application of transfer into council for Br. Edward A. Johnson, approved.
- Grand Knight's Report:
- - Rev. R. Frederick Bloom, lately of St. John the Evangelist Church, died on 5 Sep 2000. The Grand Knight discussed making a donation in his name.
- - Installation of Officers for the Elizabeth Ann Seton Chapter of Grand Knights is scheduled for 26 Sep in Emmitsburg.
- - Thank you letters were received from Frederick County Mission of Mercy and Catholic Charities for donations from our council.
- First Degree Team changes. Br. Larry Mattivi has learning the Chancellor's part. Br. Joel Tootill will do the Fianancial Secretary's part. Br. Eric Phillips will do the Grand Knight's part.
- Deadline for sign up for the October Council Family social is 19 Sep.
- Meeting 50/50 raffle was completed and awarded.

- An offer has been received to buy our currently unused bingo machine, which came from our old building on 7th Street.
- A letter from the Key's asking if we will participate in beer sales again next year.

December 3, 2000 - Pancake Breakfast Fundraiser - SJPH - 8am-NOON
December 4, 2000 - Council Social Meeting.

- Grand Knight's report:
- - Five Knights recently took their 2nd Degree.
- - The council Christmas party will be hosted at the home of Br. Tom Defibaugh on December 6.
- Family of the Month for December was awarded to PGK Richard O'Connor.
- Knight of the Month for December was awarded to Br. Patick Curley, III.
- Br. David Shumway will be taking over the Family of the Month program.
- Remaining Tootsie Rolls will be donated to the School for the Deaf.
- The annual St. John's Home Corporation meeting will occur immediately after this council meeting.
- Br. Julius Pellegrino announced the winners of our council's 2000 Youth "Keep Chris in Christmas" contest. The contest included children from Grade 1 through Grade 8, divided into two sections for the St, John's Church Religious Ed Program, and separate sections for St. John's Regional School and the Visitation Academy, resulting in 32 winning opportunities. Three category winners (Grade 1-3, Grade 4-6, and Grade 7-8) were forwarded to participate in the Maryland State Council competition. Br. Julius reported there were six persons on the grading team, Br. Julius Pellegrino, Grand Knight Bill Kinsella, Ann Litchfield (wife of Br. Bernie Litchfield, Sr.), PGK Dave Satterfield, aPGK Tom Defibaugh, and Br. Bill Schenkel.
- A 1st Degree Exemplification is planned for Jan 2 for the candidates approved tonight.

Friday, Dec 22, 2000 - CHRISTMAS CHURCH DECORATION - Knights of St. Johns Round Table and their families helped other St. John's parishioners decorate St. John's Church on Dec 22.

- A 1st Degree Exemplification was conducted for the following candidates:

- Br. Michael O'Connor has agreed to become Publicity Chairman.
- District meeting will be on Jan 13 at SJPH.
- A 2nd Degree Exemplification is planned for 13 Feb at SJPH.
- A letter of appreciation was read from the family of deceased PGK Ernest Musser, Sr,
- After an offer from St. Joseph on Carrolton Manor Church to buy our bingo machine, a motion was approved to donate the bingo machine at no cost.
January 15, 2001 - Council Business Meeting - SJPH
- Application for transfer into the council for Br. Douglas J. Muscott, approved.
- A thank you card was read from Sr. Margaret Bauer.
- Grand Knight's Report:
- - Br. Joel Tootill received a watch from the Supreme Council for the membership incentive program.
- - Presentation of the Star Council Award to Council 1622 is scheduled for the 2nd Meeting in April.
- - Bingo team schedule is full for the rest of January. Well done.
- - Monthly pancake fundraiser need additional PR to bring in customers.
- - Lenten fish fries coming soon, volunteers will be needed.
- - Family of the Month for January was awarded to Br. Mike Czarnecki.
- - Knight of the Month for January was awarded to Br. Jim Dowell.
- - Youth Basketball Freethrow Contest is scheduled for Jan 25 at the SJPH gym.
- - PGK Bill Brown reported that a family picnic is planned for July 14. Motions was approved for $100 for picnic ground reservation.
- - Nominating committee for next fraternal year approinted as PGK Richard O'Connor and Br. Joel Tootill.

February 5, 2001 - Council Social Meeting - SJPH 7:30pm.
- Application for membership for James R. Moore, approved.
- Grand Knight's Report:
- - The semi-annual financial audit has been completed.
- - The Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) has been approved by the Board of Directors at St. John's Literary Institute at Prospect Hall (SJPH).
- - A 2nd Degree Exemplification is scheduled for Feb 13.
- - Br. Pat Curley has volunteered to prepare refreshements for the upcoming 2nd Degree.
- PGK Dave Satterfield stated that the Budget Committee wil begin preparing the proposed budget for the upcoming 2001/2002 Freaternal Year and asked that all Program Directors submit their budget requests by 19 March.
- Motion by Br. Larry Mattivi for the council to co-sponsor a basket bingo that he and his wife are planning for Hospice, approved.
Monday, February 19, 2001 - Council Business Meeting - SJPH 7:30pm.
- Grand Knight's Report:
- - The MOU with SJPH has been signed.
- - Feb 5, two approved members took their 1st Degree.
- - Feb 13, six members took their 2nd Degree.
- - A 3rd degree is scheudled for March 2 in Thurmont.
- - A 2st degree is scheduled for March 5.
- - A spaghetti dinner is scheduled for March 18, 2p-6p.
- Volunteers are needed to hang Lenten banners at St. John the Evangelist Church.
- Friday Lenten Fish Fries will begin Mar 2. There are volunteer positions still available.

March 5, 2001 - Council Social Meeting - SJPH, 7:30pm

- A 1st Degree Exemplification was conducted for new Br. Robert F. Kelly and Br. Marvin Brown.
- Grand Knight's Report:
- - GK Bill Kinsella congratulated new 1st Degreee members Br. Robert Kelly and Marvin Bown, and the seven Knights who took their Third Degree in Thurmont on March 2nd, Br. Jim Kinsella, Br. John Moberly, Br. Dave Mortenson, Br. Bob Tansey, Br. Aaron Tootill, Br. Willie Walton and Br. Dave Zakrzwski.
- - The Old Timer's Dinner sponsored by the Bishop McNamara 4th Degree Assembly, which is open to all Knights, is scheduled for Apr 4.
- - A speghetti dinner fundraiser is being conducted at the church in Urbana, MD.
- - The next meeting will be open to wives for a presentation on KofC insurance at 8 pm in the SJPH gym. Refreshments will be provided.
- Holy Saturday, 8:30am, volunteers are needed to help decorate St. John the Evangelist Church for Easter.
- Br. Joel Tootill stated that the Installation of Officer ceremony and dinner for the 2001/2002 Fraternal Year will be held at the American Legion Post on July 16.
- For youth programs, PGK Dave Satterfield stated that a savings bond will be presented to the poster contest winner.
- PGK Tom Defibaugh spoke on the need for volunteers for the upcoming Preakness ushering fundraiser.
- Our KofC Insurance representative, Chuck Teal, spoke to the members present.
March 19, 2001 - Council Business Meeting (cancelled). Superceded by a KofC LONG TERM CARE SEMINAR - Presenters: KofC insurance representatives Norman (Chuck) Teal and Robert Marlowe.

APRIL 2001

April 2, 2001 - Council Social Meeting - SJPH
- Application for membership for 26 candidates, approved. Unfortunately, no names were provided.
- Application for reinstatement and transfer from Council 1728 for Br. Anthony McManus, tabled for a membership check by the Financial Secretary.
- Volunteers needed on Holy Saturday, April 14, to decorate St. John the Evangelist Church for Easter.
- There are two more monthly pancake breakfasts planned. PGK Dave Satterfield and Br. Dave Wilson announced that they are stepping down as chairmen of the pancake breakfast and expect that it will not be continued after the last two.
- The council discussed buying T-shirts for SJPH Bingo volunteers.
- The St. John's Home Corporation reports that it has pledged a $100,000 donation to SJPH from funds remaining from the sale of our previous council home property on 7th Street, Frederick, MD.

April 16, 2001 - Council Busness Meeting - SJPH.
- Reinstatement and transfer application for Br. Thomas McManus, returned to the floor and approved.
- Applications for membership for Robert C. Baxley, Thomas W. Jackson, Patrick G. Messman, William E. Railey, and John H Fox, III, approved.
- Council Programs Director Joel Tootill reported that Br. Joe Fitzgibbon will serve as Car Raffle chairman this summer, with Br. Dave Mortenson and Br. Aaron Tottill as co-chairs.
- 1st Degree Team leader Br. Michael Harrison stated that Br. Joel Tootill will perform the roll of Financial Secretary at the upcoming 1st Degree Exemplification.

- - Our Star Council award is scheduled to be presented at our 2nd council meeting in June.
- - A check and plaque for our Student Citizenship Award at SJPH will be presented shortly.
- - The Council has received a plaque from the MD State Council for our Service Program.
- Church - Easter decorations take down at St. John the Evangelist Church will be on June 4.
- Preakness Ushering - had 15 volunteers for our Council.
